Listening to God Like Mary not Martha

This section of biblical scripture is so full of many things to focus upon, but I want to concentrate on listening to the words of Jesus. When the words of the bible are being shared we are to pay attention as Martha did in bible story below. It doesn’t matter who is sharing the scriptures, remember that they are speaking as if Jesus were speaking Himself. What Mary did was the better thing. Martha seemed to be preoccupied with many things. In actual fact she was just to busy to sit at the Lord’s feet.

Luke 10:38-42
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha, the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed, Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

When was the last time that you just sat down and soaked up the word of God for a couple hours in one sitting? Jesus has many things to share with us, if we will just take the time to sit with him and listen through reading the bible. Listening is a very important part of every relationship, especially the one that we have with the Lord.
